Pursuant to Section 58.1-3007 of the Code of Virginia, notice is hereby given that the Sussex County Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing a special meeting on May 23, 2024 beginning at 6:00 p.m. in the General District Courtroom – Sussex Judicial Center, 15098 Courthouse Road, Sussex, Virginia 23884 to consider the following Tax Rates for Calendar Year 2024 F.Y. 2024-2025 Budget.
FURTHER, notice is given that the Board of Supervisors will consider an increase to the real estate tax for Calendar year 2024 as follow:
1. Real Property tax levy at $0.58 per one $100.00 of assessed value
FURTHER, notice is given that the Board of Supervisors does not propose an increase in the following tax levies for Calendar year 2024:
2. Mobile Homes tax levy remains at $0.48 per $100.00 of assessed value
3. Machinery and tools tax levy remains at $2.43 per $100.00 of assessed value
4. Merchants Capital tax levy remains at $1.00 per $100.00 of assessed value
5. Fire & Rescue tax levy remains at $2.43/$100 of assessed value
6. Personal Property tax levy remains at $4.85/$100 of assessed value
Copies of the proposed budget, including the proposed tax increases, are on file and are available for review in the County Administrator’s Office, 20135 Princeton Road, Sussex, Virginia 23884, during regular business hours Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., phone number 434-246-5000.
All persons affected or interested are invited to be present at the public hearing of the Board of Supervisors to be held at the time and place stated above, where an opportunity will be given for them to be heard. Comments may also be submitted in writing to Shilton R. Butts at sricks@sussexcountyva.gov or via mail to Sussex County Administration at P.O. Box 1297, Sussex, Virginia 23884, no later than noon on Thursday, May 23, 2024.
