Pursuant to Section 15.2-2204 of the Code of Virginia, notice is hereby given that the Sussex County Board of Supervisors and Sussex County Planning Commission will hold a joint public hearing on Thursday, October 24, 2024 at 6:00 p.m. at the Sussex Central High School, 21394 Sussex Drive, Stony Creek, Virginia 23882 in the Auditorium.
The Planning Commission and the Board of Supervisors will consider, and may take action upon, the following:
Conditional Use Permit #2024-04: The applicant, Big Pine Solar LLC (RWE Clean Energy, LLC), seeks a Conditional Use Permit to construct and operate a 150 megawatt alternating current (MWac) (or less) photovoltaic solar facility located in Sussex County, Virginia. The project bisects Route 625 (Newville Road) and is situated north of the intersection of Route 625 (Neblett Mill Road) and Route 626 (Beef Steak Road). The Project will span twelve (12) parcels of land identified as (Tax Map Parcels 14-A-2, 26-A-4, 14-A-5, 26-A-2, 25-A-3, 25-A-4, 25-A-6, 26-A-3, 26-A-31, 26-A-5, 39-A-31, and 39-A-32) which are owned by four (4) different owners. The total project area is approximately 4,506 acres, which are currently mainly being managed for timber production with a 40-acre section used for agriculture. The current project development area, which includes panels, fencing and access roads, will cover approximately 1,648 acres of the project site and will be accessed via site entrances located along Route 602 (Cabin Point Road) and 625 (Newville Road).
