Sussex General District and Juvenile and Domestic Courts Cancellation

  April 5, 2021: Sussex County Combined Courts are CLOSED until Tuesday, April 6th due to COVID-19 exposure and sanitation. 

  April 22nd, 2020: The Supreme Court of Virginia announced Third Order Extending Declaration of Judicial Emergency in Response to COVID-19 Emergency resulting in extension of the Courts Cancellation through May 17th, 2020.

All civil, traffic and criminal matters in the Court, except for emergency matters are cancelled.

Emergency matters include but are not limited to:

• Petitions for isolation
• Inmate arraignments
• Bail reviews
• Protective order cases
• Civil commitment hearings

Advisements and bond hearings will be held by video when possible. All cases will be rescheduled, and notices will be mailed.

Previous Updates:

• March 30th, 2020: The Supreme Court of Virginia ordered the Extension of Declaration of Judicial Emergency due to the COVID-19 outbreak resulting in extension of the Courts Cancellation through April 26th, 2020.

• March 18th: Supreme Court of Virginia in RE: Order Declaring a Judicial Emergency in Response to COVID-19 Emergency

• March 16th: General District Court dockets cancelled for March 17th and 24th
