Richard Douglas has served as the County Administrator of Sussex County since September 2020. He has over 20 years of county, city, and town management experience in Virginia, North Carolina, and Georgia, with additional work experience at the regional, state, and federal levels of government. Born and raised in Bridgeport, West Virginia, Richard attended James Madison University (BS in Public Administration and Political Science) and the University of Virginia (Master of Planning). He is a credentialed local government manager (ICMA-CM) and has held the national certified planning certification (AICP) since 1996. Richard and his family reside in Sussex County between Stony Creek and Jarratt.
Fun Fact: Richard is a member of the MCM Runners Club after completing the minimum of five Marine Corps Marathons in Washington DC.
Fun Fact: Richard is a member of the Grand Canyon Rim to Rim Club after hiking the Grand Canyon from its North Rim to South Rim (24 miles) in September 2019.
