Voting Information

The constitution of Virginia requires that you be registered in the precinct in which you live in order to be qualified to vote.

The Voter Registration Office for the county of Sussex located at 1580 Courthouse Rd. Sussex, VA is open Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  In order to be eligible to vote in the November 8, 2022 General Election, you must register no later than 5:00 p.m. on Monday, October 17, 2022. In –Person absentee (early) voting begins Friday, September 23, 2022 at the Registrar’s Office.  The last day to request an absentee ballot by mail is Friday October 28, 2022.  For the convenience of eligible citizens, the Voter Registration Office will be open Saturday, October 29, 2022 and Saturday, November 5, 2022 from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. for registered voters who need to vote In-Person for this election.  Saturday, November 5, 2022 is the last day to vote an (early) In-Person absentee ballot by qualified applicants at the Registrar’s Office.

Town Elections will also be held for: Waverly, Stony Creek, Wakefield, and Jarratt to determine upcoming Mayor and Town Council members.

Official Drop-off Locations for the November 8, 2022 vote-by-mail ballots will be available at the Voter Registration Office during the hours mentioned above and at each county polling place on Election Day from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

November 8th, 2022 General Election

The Constitution of Virginia requires that you be registered in the precinct in which you live in order to be qualified to vote. Tuesday, Oct 17th, 2022 is the last day to register to vote in the November 8th, 2022 General Election.

The Office of the General Registrar, at 15080 Courthouse Road, Sussex, VA, is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For the convenience of voters casting absentee ballots in person, the office also will be open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on: Saturday, Oct. 29th, 2022 & Saturday, Nov. 5, 2022.

Sussex County Voting Information Waverly District Special Election

The Constitution of Virginia requires that you be registered in the precinct in which you live in order to be qualified to vote to in the February 8th, 2022 Special Election.

This election is for the Waverly District only.

The Office of the General Registrar, at 15080 Courthouse Road, Sussex, VA, is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Early Voting is in progress at the Registrar’s office. For the convenience of voters casting absentee ballots in person, the office also will be open on:

Saturday, Feb. 5th,2022 from 9 am to 5 pm

February 8, 2022 Special Election for Board of Supervisor, Waverly District

There will be a Special Election for Board of Supervisor Waverly District held on Tuesday, February 8th, 2022.

The deadline to file to be a candidate is December 10th, 2021.

November 2, 2021 General Election

The Constitution of Virginia requires that you be registered in the precinct in which you live in order to be qualified to vote. Tuesday, Oct 12th, 2021 is the last day to register in which to vote in the November 2nd, 2021 General Election.

The Office of the General Registrar, at 15080 Courthouse Road, Sussex, VA, is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Early Voting is in progress. For the convenience of voters casting absentee ballots in person, the office also will be open on:

  • Sunday, Oct. 17th, 2021  1pm to 5pm
  • Saturday, Oct. 23rd,2021  9am to 5pm 
  • Saturday, Oct. 30th, 2021  9am to 5pm
