Cooperative Extension Services

Virginia Cooperative Extension’s urban programs focus in the major areas of agriculture, 4-H youth development, and family and consumer sciences through the land grant colleges of Virginia State University and Virginia Tech.

Extension Agents and Specialists deliver educational programs that are designed to address issues and concerns in the areas of; landscape management, pesticide safety; individual and community gardens; storm runoff of fertilizers and chemicals; insect, disease, and rodent control; wildlife nuisance management; in-school 4-H educational programs that support the standards of learning; after school 4-H programs for youth; and food safety, nutrition, parenting, aging, and family financial management.

The Sussex County office of Virginia Cooperative Extension is your local connection to Virginia’s land-grant universities, Virginia Tech and Virginia State University.

Through educational programs based on research and developed with input from local stakeholders, we help the people of Sussex County improve their lives.

We provide education through programs in Agriculture and Natural Resources, Family and Consumer Sciences, 4-H Youth Development, and Community Viability.
