Overview:

The County of Sussex, Virginia is in need of consulting management services relative to the implementation of two (2) major redevelopment projects, the Pocahontas Neighborhood Community Improvement Project and the Waverly Tornado Recovery Urgent Needs Project. These projects are being financed with Virginia Community Development Block Grant funds. Other funding sources may include the Sussex Service Authority, the Virginia Department of Transportation, the Town of Wakefield Electric/Prince George Electric Co-Op and Sussex County.

Notice of Emergency Procurement for Additions to the Sussex County Animal Shelter

On October 15, 2020, Sussex County entered into an emergency contract with James R. Jones Builder, Inc. for additions to the County's Animal Shelter, located at 14493 Robinson Road, Stony Creek, Virginia 23882.

This procurement was designated as an emergency pursuant to Virginia Code § 2.2- 4303(F) because the County’s existing Animal Shelter does not provide for safe social distancing practices by staff and patrons. Social distancing has been recommended by the Center for Disease Control and required by the Virginia Department of Labor and Industry to help stop the spread of the virus. Outdoor dog runs and a separate room just for cats will be added to the Animal Shelter. These additions will allow the Animal Shelter to operate while ensuring staff and patrons are properly distanced while viewing and taking care of the animals.

Overview:

The County of Sussex, Virginia is hereby soliciting written sealed bids from licensed and insured general contractors to perform housing rehabilitation and substantial housing rehabilitation improvements on six single-family houses located in the Pocahontas Neighborhood Improvement Project Grant area and the Sussex County Regional Urgent Need (UNOS) Grant area of Sussex County, VA. The funds used to rehabilitate this home are provided via a Federal Community Improvement Grant / Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program funds as administrated by the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development ("VDHCD").

The project includes one Substantial Housing Rehabilitation (stick-built, modular, or manufactured on permanent construction foundation type:

Request for Proposals (RFP) Lawn Mowing and Landscaping Services for Various Locations - RFP # 2020-10

Overview:

The County of Sussex is seeking proposals from Contractors who are not only capable of performing the attached scope of work but who also take pride in their finished product. The contractor must currently be in the business of providing turf, landscaping maintenance services, and irrigation system work. All applicable federal, state, and local laws, ordinances and regulations must be adhered to. Services to commence September, 2020.

Contractors submitting a proposal should review the procurement requirements listed.

Specifically, the selected Contractor will be required to:

  • Execute a Master Services Agreement with the County of Sussex;
  • Complete applicable forms and certifications;
  • Maintain General Liability Insurance ($1,000,000 minimum); Workers Compensation Insurance ($500,000) and business automobile liability ($1,000,000) and furnish proof of such insurance;

Bidders are encouraged to attend a pre-proposal meeting August 25, 2020 at 10am at 20135 Princeton Road (Administration Building) when County staff will review regulations and requirements, answer questions, and provide a tour.

No Contractor who is the recipient of County of Sussex funds, or who proposes to perform any work or furnish any goods under this agreement shall discriminate against any worker, employee, applicant, or any member of the public because of race, color, sex, gender, sexual orientation, religion, age, marital status, national origin, veteran status, physical or mental disability or perceived disability, or other criteria protected by law.

(RFP) Request for Proposals 2020-01

This Request for Proposal ("RFP") is part of a competitive procurement process. The project will be awarded to the offeror who submits the best proposal.

A copy of the complete RFP is available on the County’s website at www.sussexcountyva.gov and at the County Administrator’s office between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., by contacting Ms. Shilton R. The property reassessment will begin within fifteen (15) days from the awarding of the contract and will be completed by November 30, 2021 with any extensions only as necessary and authorized under the Code of Virginia.

The basis of the emergency is that the current county administrator’s services with the County will end on February 1. The County must have the uninterrupted services of a chief administrative officer, and so, must obtain those services immediately.
